PRAISE THE LORD IN TIMES OF DISTRESS
For those that are musically inclined, group singing has an aesthetic and therapeutic value. Sometimes singing relieves pent-up feelings, thus getting issues from the subconscious to the conscious so we can deal with them. The words of a song help us to think things through.
I remember once when I was struggling with my faith, I heard over the radio the familiar hymn, “It Is Well With My Soul.”
When peace like a river attends my soul.
When sorrow like sea billows roll
Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say
It is well, it is well with my soul.
The author had learned that his wife and children perished at sea. He asked to be taken to the exact spot where they perished, and then penned the above song.
How many of us want to worship God during the hard times? If you answered “not me” please questions your spiritual depth, and remember–singing in a church choir could be one of the wisest things you could ever do!
