HOW TO START YOUR OWN HOME CHURCH
What is your excuse for not going to church? Sometimes people are just looking for an excuse, but I am finding that many people have been so deeply hurt by the church, that they want as far away from it as they can get. Christian magazines have even written articles on this subject it is becoming such a problem. This is a travesty. I used to only be able to relate to these people a little bit, but I totally relate to them now.
So what are many Christians around the world, especially here in America doing about it? They really do want to worship God.
The home church is making a come-back. How many people does it take to have a church? Just two, according to Matthew 18:20. When a believer interacts with another, the spirit of God is present in that fellowship. Jesus says “Where two or more are gathered in my name, there I will be also.”
So, starting a home church begins with just two people, but how do you conduct a home church? Well, there are no set rules, but in Ephesians 5:19 and Colossians 3:16 Paul says to: “Speak to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”
So here we have three suggestions–sing, teach, and admonish. Other places in the Bible say to encourage one another in love and of course, you always want to include prayer. Giving a personal testimony is a good idea. It can be a time of reflection. Share what God has dealt with you about the past week.
You might try gathering at the time a good preacher is on TV that you all enjoy and then discuss what each one got out of the message. Just make sure you choose one that teaches the entire gospel, and not just a partial gospel such as the false prosperity doctrine.
So, whatever your reason for not going to church, please think again. Just find one other person that feels like you do, then each week, try to share what you are doing with three other people that need a friend and don’t have a church home. You can also advertise in your local paper. You also might try taking an offering of $1/week, for example and start a bank account so you can have some fun money to do things together.
These are just a few suggestions, but Jesus promises to be there to guide you all the way. You can do it! Have fun!
